In this edition of Christian daily devotions we'll take a look at one of the most important aspects of your walk with God - prayer. While prayer is important for many reasons, there are many misconceptions about it.
What is prayer?
Simply put, it is how we communicate with the Almighty God. It can be just like talking to one of your friends if you will let it. In fact, this is exactly what it should be. Who is a better friend than God?
None of your other friends are completely loyal, loving, caring, and perfect are they? So why wouldn't you want to talk to God?
So how should we pray?
Many misconceptions surround prayer. One popular thing to do is to repeatedly pray, asking for the same thing and wondering why you don't get it. Even Jesus preached against this very topic.
"Do not use vain repititions as the heathen do. For your Father knoweth that you have need of these things before you ask."
What exactly does this mean?
In summary, it means that you don't have to repeatedly ask God for the same thing. God knows that you need it as soon as you think it. In case you forgot, he can read your thoughts. So why constantly ask for the same thing?
Instead we should ask for it and believe that we have received it as soon as we ask. Pray with an attitude of expectancy. Expect God to deliver exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. If you don't believe that you're going to get it, why ask?
"Whatsoever things ye ask for when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them."
Did Jesus say, "maybe God will give you what you ask for if you believe"? No! He said WHATEVER we ask for when we pray, BELIEVE and it's as good as ours! Have faith in God's ability to provide.
Hopefully this edition of Christian daily devotions has cleared up a little of the confusion you may have about prayer.
Next time you pray, believe that you've got it.
