In this edition of Christian Daily Devotions we'll look at some different things that we come across in our lives as Christians.
It's not always easy being a Christian in today's world. In fact I would argue that it's tougher now than its ever been. Everywhere we turn we are being tempted. Check out the article below for some tips that can help you.
With today's topsy-turvy world and economic situation, you might be wondering which way is up. "Mama never warned me about this," you might be thinking to yourself. Everywhere we look there is temptation in every form. Drugs are running rampant in every city in the world. Every third scene on television involves some sort of sex or sexual enuendo. Internet pornography is just a few clicks away and infedility is thought of as "a phase" to many married couples. The times we live in are pretty rough.
However, with that being said, there is hope for you. These can be your greatest days and it can continually get better. While we face many challenges as Christians, we still have an Ace in the hole - an Almighty God to turn to in any circumstance. Let's look at the 5 tips in this edition of Christian Daily Devotions and hopefully they will help you hang onto your faith regardless of what comes at you.
1. God is in control
This means that God is in control no matter what. It doesn't mean He's in control sometimes. It doesn't mean that only when times are good He's calling the shots and watching over you. Regardless of how bad the situation gets, He is always there watching over you. You can feel Him all around you at all times if you'll allow it. Even if you're facing bankruptcy, divorce, sickness, or death, God is in control of everything and it's going exactly as it should.
2. God has a plan for you
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses and it says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Many people go around thinking that everything is in a state of chaos. "I haven't accomplished anything." "I can't ever seem to get ahead." These are common cries among many people around the world including Christians. However, this is simply not true. God has definite plans for you and you are here for a reason. Do not ever feel like your life is not useful in some way. God would never waste his time making a creation that served no purpose. God wants you to prosper, to live abundantly and happily. Don't ever get any notions to the contrary regardless of what people might tell you.
3. Stop watching the news
That's right. Just make a deal with yourself that you're not going to watch the news for a month. While it might be unthinkable to some of you, this will really do you some good. Think about it for a second. What has watching the news ever really benefited you? Go ahead and really think about it. Has it bettered your life in any way? Did it help you learn information that is necessary to keep living. Of course not! With the exception of letting you know when a hurricane is about to come, I can't think of any way that the news helps you. (If you live near the coast, you can keep The Weather Channel on.) The news only focuses on one thing every day - negativity. Soaking up negativity in order to make your life better is kind of like chewing bubble gum in hopes of solving an algebra equation. It's not going to happen. Do you really need to know who was killed in a car accident or brutally murdered? Do you need to hear what the so-called "experts" are predicting for the 3rd quarter business results? Last time I checked, none of these financial analysts used a crystal ball or had any special powers to predict the future. They're making an educated guess and they're usually wrong. Just go about your business without worrying what other people think. You'll be much better off because of it.
This might sound like an obvious one, but prayer is really the key to keeping your faith in difficult times. Besides studying the Bible and having a time of Christian Daily Devotions is right up there with prayer in developing your relationship. How can you be expected to grow a relationship with a friend if you never communicate? If you never talk to God, how will your relationship go to the next level. God loves you and listens to every word you breathe. Tell him everything that is on your heart and he will respond in one way or another.
Whatever you ask for, believe that you're going to receive it. This is often overlooked by Christians regardless how many times they study Christian Daily Devotions. We pray for things that we want and then we don't really expect God to deliver. If you're going to go to the trouble of asking the Creator of the universe for something, why would you think for a second that He won't be able to provide it. "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."- Mark 11:24
Hopefully this edition of Christian Daily Devotions will help you in your walk this week. Regardless of what comes at you, stay strong. God is in control.
