How to Run Your Christian Business

by Robert Bellarmine

Running a business is not the same as running a worldly business. Indeed if you follow Bible teachings then there are some changes that you will need to make regarding your whole business process. Whether it is the management or marketing areas, for instance, everything will be impacted by Christian principles. In order to help you learn more on this topic I have written this article and I hope that you will find it useful.

Recognize the Lord

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Prov 3: 5-6, NIV)

Whether it is in our daily life or in our Christian business it is important that we rely on the Lord for all of our needs and supplies. Always seek the guidance of God before taking any major decisions pertaining to your business. It is indeed this type of mentality that will make a difference between a Christian business and a worldly business.

Work hard

Have you seen a man who is expert in his business? He will take his place before kings; his place will not be among low persons. (Prov 22:29, Bible in Basic English)

As a Christian businessman it is important that you develop your skills and work hard if you want to offer the best product and service to your clients. Indeed as a Christian we are called to excel and it is only by working hard that we will be able to achieve this.

Employee relations

Masters, be just and fair to your slaves. Remember that you also have a Master--in heaven. (Col 4:1, NIV)

As a Christian businessman you should also be careful on the way you treat your employees. At a time where the world is speaking about sustainable development it might also be important that Christian business consider their employees well. Make sure that you provide your employees with a good working environment and an appropriate salary.

Ethics

At this point in time I will also want to speak a bit about the importance of having an ethical conduct. As a Christian businessman you should make sure that you behave in an ethical way if you want to give a good testimony of your faith. Make sure that you obey all laws, rules and regulations that exist in your business sector and do not look for any shortcuts.

Conclusion

Christian businessman should always make sure that their businesses are run under the guidance of the bible if they want to give a good testimony in the world. Indeed Christians are not called to shine only in the church but in every area of their life.
