Sincere Like a Child
by Kumalawaty Sundari
“Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (Luke 18:17)
Recalling his memory of Safari zoo, Darren, my four-year-old nephew invites me to imagine as if we are there each time he comes to my house. He starts always with preparing the tickets to explore the zoo, then he will mention the name of the animals that he likes. Sometimes I do not understand, why he repeats the same thing every week, but I realize that it is the habit of a child.
Today maybe the story of how Jesus died for sinners, we have heard it many times. However, is that story repeated also in our heart and especially can that story touch us deeply? If we really need Jesus in our life, of course we will open our heart for Him, and we will be His witness in this world. Does His goodness echo again and again in our heart? Like a child, we need to have a thankful heart to His wondrous grace. When we are separated from God’s love, we will not be able to accomplish His will. As His creation, the story of Jesus must be rooted in our heart, then with our thoughts and deeds we can glorify our Father in heaven. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we should walk with Jesus as we were created for good deeds.
Do not forsake His infinite grace, instead let’s persevere in God’s love as it is so sweet and much sweeter than all that the world can give. Meeting Jesus starts with our humility before Him; more sincere we are, deeper is our relationship with the Most High.
