The Secret Criticism

Many have given The Secret criticism for it's theories on the Law of Attraction.

The "so-called" experts have come up with every possible excuse for why it won't work. Many have called it irresponsible. Many have called it a scam. However, the fact is...many of these "experts" really don't know what they're talking about.

A recent "unbiased" news report on Nightline provided the normal format for The Secret Criticism. They first gave some information about how The Secret has sold millions of copies of both the book and the dvd. They gave a basic interpretation of what the Law of Attraction is and then set out to prove it wrong.

They sought out people who we would perceive to be experts in their given fields to discount the Law of Attraction. One of the people they found was the director of some weight-loss organization. His main purpose was to combat the claims that Rhonda Byrne made in her book. By using the Law of Attraction, she lost something like 50 pounds. No dieting or excessive exercising was required. She simply focused on the vision of herself that she wanted. She didn't give any attention to overweight people or fat.

The weight-loss "expert" (who by the way wasn't exactly skinny by any account) went on to say that it just isn't possible. He said if it worked, everyone would be doing it. Hmm...that's great logic. Let's take that argument into the world of money. 1% of the people have roughly 97% of the money. What they do works, and it works like a charm. So why aren't the other 99% of the population getting rich? Is it because the strategy doesn't work, or is it possible that they just don't know about it?

Another expert was the head of the American Cancer Association. He claimed that there is no medical evidence to support that positive thinking can heal you. This is possibly the most ridiculous of the arguments. The mind is in control of the body. Your cells regenerate themselves at the rate of 50,000 cells per second. Therefore, by visioning perfect health, your cells recreate healthy new cells. In this way, you can help heal yourself very quickly. There are many studies that support these claims, but apparently an administrator at a organization with "cancer" in the title knows more about the subject. After this expert it's easy to see The Secret criticism coming from the media.

Next they went to someone that reviews Christian books. They obviously are an expert in the area of faith. Why they went to an editor that reviews books as an authority, over someone like a pastor, I'll never know. They went on to question where God was in all of this. Anyone who has done any research on the matter knows that this backs up the Bible completely. At first glance it may not appear so, but it does. Click here to see what the Bible has to say about "The Secret" The last guest by far took The Secret Criticism to a whole new level of stupidity. Apparently because he has a PhD, he is an expert on the Law of Attraction. He disputed the claims made by the movie that thoughts create a frequency. He said there is no empirical evidence to support this. He also stated that there is no possibility that thoughts can attract things.

After hearing this, it became obvious that Nightline simply found the people they wanted to speak. This guy had obviously not done any research on the matter. The movie "What the Bleep..." is based on actual research studies done by real scientists. Many of them probably have a lot more knowledge on the subject than the medical intern that was trotted out by Nightline. These studies definitely supported the Law of Attraction.

In fact, these studies are not alone. Many studies have been done that would disprove The Secret criticism. However, the media is only concerned with negativity. This is true in every area of news, so we shouldn't be surprised when they try to bash a good thing.

After the "experts" were given the first 20 minutes to give The Secret criticism, Bob Proctor was given roughly 4 minutes to rebuttle. Instead of giving him a fair chance to teach, he was basically given a barrage of accusatory questions. "Why would the head of the Cancer society say this isn't true?" etc.

I was thouroughly disgusted after watching this show. It is clear that the media has their own agenda. They are intent on giving The Secret criticism instead of praise. Do not let the media control the way you think. If you don't believe in the Law of Attraction, that is completely fine. You are entitled to your opinion. Just don't let a bunch of people with an agenda decide your opinion for you.
